I was thinking how easy it would be nowadays with fingerprinting and DNA to catch Jack the Ripper who preyed on women in poor areas of London in the late 1800. bu it does seem that some fingerprinting was being used at that time.. but not DNA of course... but then I thought about Bible John who murdered young women in Glasgow in the 1960s... theyve never found him either and have much more modern methods... However do you know much about the Jack the Ripper case and have you thoughts on who he or she might have been... Everyone says it was a man.. but how do they know..here are some suspects. Who was Jack the Ripper? The suspects so far
Tumblety is intriguing. My objection is that he seems to be a self-promoter and the Ripper couldn't have been flashy and not be caught (unless the coppers were entirely inept - and perhaps were).
It couldn't be Kosminski. He was a Jew, and Jews can never be associated with something awful like this, can they?
I haven't really researched all the suspects, but I do remember reading that Tumblety was in the vicinity of all the murders at the time and he had jars containing women's body parts. Kosminski had something that belonged to one of the victims, the article said a scarf, but I thought I read somewhere that it was a ring. I also heard someone in the Royal Family might have been the suspect. Who knows ?
Im surprised that back then the police didnt pin it on one of these men.. to blame and take the glory.. fingerprinting was also used it seems at that time, whether on this case I dont know.. In one of the movies about the Ripper it was used..but of course thats a film. I found this and makes you wonder if it was 100 or 1000 years ago so primitive
Inspector Walter Dew reported that "...several photographs of the eyes were taken by expert photographers with the latest type cameras..."
He claimed that this was done in the ‘forlorn hope’ that the final image seen by Mary Kelly – i.e. the face of her murderer - had been preserved on her retina. Dew went on to comment that "the result was negative."
However, by 1888 both the Metropolitan Police and the City of London Police were employing the services of local freelance photographers to record the likenesses of those who had died suddenly as a means of identification. http://www.jack-the-ripper.org/inves...techniques.htm
I would not expect their to be much -- or any -- fingerprints or DNA to collect, so I don't think that aspect of modern technology is going to be of much help.

maybe not.. but now they could determine the knife or knives used couldnt they..and surely this man if he was a man would have been covered in blood.. he skinned his last victim.

If it was as easy as finding the guy covered in blood, he would have been found at the time. The knives may or may not have been cleaned enough to remove DNA evidence. Even if DNA evidence was present, that does not prove that the knife was the actual murder weapon, nor does it actually place the blade in anyone's hands, but it would give the detectives something to work with.

They'll never solve it now, it just seems to be a hobby activity for enthusiasts.
I hear he was actually in White Chapel at the same time.
