I think this is a good thread to post this photo link.
It is worth the wait to view them as a slideshow. There are 33 pictures mostly of a graveyard that time forgot. Enjoy.

I'd say after the Civil War through the Roaring Twenties. Of course I'd want to be White, rich and male.

The worst time would be pretty much any time early on in our recorded history. The earlier the time frame, the harder the life would be. Especially when ramped disease was spreading like during the Black Plague, 1347 to 1353.

My mother was age 11-21 during the 1950s and she said it was the absolutely best time. She loved that time period.

For me, I don't know. I hate to be cold. Maybe Hollywood in the 1940s and 50s.

I would like to have lived in the 1880s in the western US.

I agree, nancy, that growing up in the 50s was idyllic. I would like (and do, in a way) to live in that era again.

I agree.
Practically everyone I've asked who lived through that period liked the 1950s the best.

That is what I would pick, the 1950s.
Things were normal... people, cars, music, etc

At the schools, the biggest problems were chewing gum in class, talking in class and running in the halls. Now it's drugs, teen pregnancy and guns/violence.

That decade was modern enough to have relatively good medical care but not too modern as to have widespread drug use and high crime rates.

I would also choose the Old West, circa 1880, but to visit not to live there. Would be great to visit though... especially one of those saloons.

Those are interesting photos; a lot of variety.

Old cemeteries are kind of fascinating.

Except if you were Black, Russian, coloured or from another race, Gay, pregnant and unmarried, an Atheist, or different in any way shape or form and had a mind of your own.... The 50s look wonderful on paper, on close scrutiny though, they tell a slightly different story.

I can only imagine what it would be like living at any time in history that I have not personally experienced. That being said, I was born in the 40's and from the 40's to now, I would prefer to go back to the mid-50's to early 60's; I loved the attitudes, music, cars, clothes, etc.

I just wonder how much of that is because of the age you are at the time? The early poster mentioned their mother who must be about the same age. My mom was a teen in the 40's and loved it. I had a great time when I was that age. Unless you are someone that just had a horrible teenage/early 20's it is a time of less responsibility yet the freedom to go out and live. Seems pretty attractive once kids, mortgage, health issues, etc. start to loom.

100 years ago before mass production, franchises, and rap.

Back when the world had some integrity and things were sentimental. There is no charm in franchises or mass produced products, which makes up todays world 100%
