Anyone here collect mineral or rock specimens? Nicer stuff not gravel from your yard but not 1000 dollar things.

I used to collect minerals and was even a member of a club. Then, for some reason, the interest faded. I still take my children on fossil hunting trips and to earth science fairs. I get them the $1-10.00 specimens.

Maybe do you collect any quartz or other minerals such as that? diamonds are only rare and expensive because DeBeers says so.

I've got some of both (in jewelry form). I also have some azuremalachite (not sure that's spelled right).

Hard to choose a favorite but I think my favorite is labradorite. I like the effect of the labradoresence. I like moonstone too for the flash of color. I really would like some alexandrite but it's so expensive.

I'd love to take classes and get my graduate gemologist's degree. Maybe someday.
