Why did the NHL do such radical changes to the game after the lockout?

It gives me the impression that the NHL wanted to change its image after the lockout to be more in conformity to modern times.

They changed the logo, TV networks from ESPN, ice dimensions etc etc

Do you think the game rule changes have been a success or do you prefer the pre lockout NHL.

Tell me what you think

The game was changed in hopes to appeal to the larger masses as the strike nearly buried the NHL. National coverage is poor minus the Winter Classic. Stanley Cup ratings are abysmal. I don't think the changes have affected the popularity one way or the other. I'd prefer pre-lockout rules. There's no shame in a draw.

Although the shootout seems despisde by more recently, I still look forward to it. At least it gets some of the fans standing in anticipation for a period of time, unlike in regulation. It's quick, and then it'll be over unlike playoff overtime which if it drags on too long gets boring, contrary to popular belief!

The NHL were much better pre-Bettman.

I'd like to see fighting banned.

Now that would be a "radical change!"

I agree.i miss the old hockey dynasties. It seems now all the teams have to lower the game so as to make obscure places more competitive. I used to like the old 6 team league and expanding it to 30 teams just watered the whole game 12-18 teams would have been more reasonable..

No hockey this weekend as the boring All Star game takes over..
