No, I meant the white cabinet thing, I threw in the whitewash because one still sees so much of that garbage down here.
Seriously, folks from up north come down here and think that everyones house still looks like an episode from Miami Vice.
I get asked to do the "Florida look" all the time.
Imagine their surprise when I take them to my favorite furniture stores and that look is nowhere to be seen! Folks think that FL look is whites, rattan, pink, teal and aqua.
I think I just threw up a little in my mouth.
OK, you have to stop now, because i am sitting at my desk now and I want to burst out in laughter, and i will get in trouble !!!!!
I am thinking the reason is because in Florida it is always sunny and warm, like light and airy, so they feel white is like out door-sey.....cause here up north, our weather is suck-a-mundo............
personally, I don;t like my Aunts taste anyway....but don;t tell her.
Ok so lets get to the real wood floor for the kitchen...
I have Bruce hardwood, 5 inch planks. Big mistake, as I have a portable washer and yes, it has leaked from time to time and the grain has risen in front of the sink. Yet the rest of the apartment has a different kind of hardwood and you can run Niagra Falls on it, and all it does is get clean.
I wish I never got it for the Kitchen, i should have went my gut and gotten ceramic tiles, I just felt for an older building, with setteling they would crack.....
Knew you would get exactly what I was referring to!
That sure does suck about your floors.
Hate that!
I know that there is some kind of liner that can be put down on the floors of older homes to prevent tile cracking.....I have seen it installed 100 times on design jobs.
Cant think of what its called to save my life.....maybe a tile guy will come along and tell us what it is.....heck, I even have it in my own house.

I'm relatively new to FL (3yrs) and I admit that the "Florida Look" is very hard to resist. I think it's something to do with throwing off the old, cold and dark and embracing the new warmth. In FL you can get away with colors that would be shocking up north, or at least you feel like you can get away with it. Can I help it if those colors make me happy? I know perfectly well that it's frowned upon and I try to resist, really I do, but the feeling I get sitting in my just-painted-aqua screened porch with a frou-frou drink is more powerful than any resistance that I might have. Sorry.

5 years from now, you will be completely over all that.
I've seen it 100 times with design clients.
