My husband and I went under contract today for a great home that needs a little love. I'd appreciate your ideas on the kitchen backsplash.
The backsplash is small square beige tiles. They are set as squares, not at an angle. I'd love to do something to dress it up a bit... I saw pewter fleur de lis tile screws you can put into the grout, but the grout has to be wet. My husband mentioned stenciling, and I'm not totally opposed, but I'd really like to somehow adhere a small (inexpensive!) fleur de lis onto a few of the tiles. I haven't found any DIYs or products like this so far.
Impossible to determine from the picture but instead of screwing it into the grout would it be feasible to put a Velcro tab where the screws normally would go? If you use the industrial ones, a tiny piece would hold it for sure. Just don't know if it could be done.
Nice kitchen.
If it was me, i would just rip it out and start over. It's a small area. Install something you really like instead of trying to bedazzle it.

That was exactly what I was thinking but if they just went to contract she will have a million other things that she "needs" to do. I see the backsplash as a down the road project. But for a quick pick me up I think she was looking for suggestions.
The type of "fleur de lis" show would be a poor choice to create "accents" in an already finished tile backsplash. Even if you could get it to stay adhered it would be a MAGNET for kitchen messes, quickly attracting greasy dusty gunk...
Especially since this otherwise attractive kitchen appears to have NO EXHAUST HOOD and a cooktop plunked down IN FRONT OF A WINDOW the thought of how big a mess such an intricat piece might soon become gives me the heebie-jeebies. YUCK!
I think down the road, when you decide what you are going to do once all the wallpaper is yanked out, you will likely have years to think about giving the backsplash a little more zip...
Great kitchen but it is a bit odd having the stove top in front of the window, i think i would have to have it moved, where is the sink?
