well this seems like an appropriate forum to answer this question.

I only use a barely damp rag.
No chemicals necessary!

That is a big ditto and by barely you mean BARELY damp. I actually use an old flannel pajama and it has not failed me yet and my floors are all hardwood except for the bathrooms.

Don't laugh, but I use windex and paper towels. I get on my hands and knees and squirt windex, and wipe....or sometimes I fill the bathtub with bleech and water and use a sponge mop. I have an apartment so everything is on one floor and it is easy to fill the tub...

I really do. I am so old school... but nothing gets a floor cleaner than being on your hands and knees.

I use a 50-50 solution of vinegar and water, on a barely damp mop, after some vigorous vacuuming.

Ditto on the 50-50 vinegar-water. But to really avoid streaks, I have to get down on hands and knees with cleaning rags. I've had wood floors in the past that didn't streak as much (they were lighter in color) but in our current house (floors are medium-dark maple) every little drop, streak, and doggie paw print shows. Ugh. Swiffer Wet Jet was the worst! I don't remember what is in that solution, but it made a horrendous mess on our wood floors.

I just refinished our oak floors. I have been using a damp towel as well. I will also spot clean with Bona.

Semi-OT: Can anyone recommend a vacuum for hardwood? Specifically to pick up dog hair. I'm thinking that I need something without a rotating brush. A rotating brush seems like it will damage the finish over time.

Thanks!!

Mandk

Any specific type of vinegar? Undistilled maybe?
