If I had to take down wallpaper again, and I won't, I'd use DIF gel again. It made an unpleasant job a little less unpleasant. A pretty heavy application, wait 20 minutes, and it came off in pretty big pieces. I ended up helping take down the lower stuff just because I'm a nice person, or maybe because I'm sooo ready to see some paint instead of that ugly yellow backing .
I've never had to remove wallpaper, but from everything that I've seen and read about it, this would be a good torture device for the terrorists in Guantanamo Bay. Remove wallpaper, put it back up... remove again.

I am currently painting my bathroom laminate countertops. A scary process, but looks nice, I think! Next is staining the bathroom vanity.

Any pictures of your countertops? I've never really thought about painting laminate before.

I would hate to see someone go through major work like this and then in a few years, come to regret some of the decisions which were made.

Trust me---I research too much. LOL! In a few years, I won't even live here or else these appliances would be researched for a year knowing me.

I already know which refrigerator I'm getting---you don't have many options in the counter-depth, freezer-bottom, <28" wide realm.

I already know which DW I am getting---you don't have many options in the 18" realm either.

Stoves/microwaves I don't really care about as long as they have good reviews. And I know what I want in them---thankful for ajmadison for having such a nice website to only search for what you want and really narrow it down. So really, prices and decent reviews only matter to me at this point.

For the record, I have a tiny kitchen and you can't really do anything with it. There is no real design or plan to implement. It is what it is. Sink/DW/Stove on one side all right next to each other. Countertop/Refrigerator on the other. Bam. My entire kitchen.

More pictures in the blog.

The rooms are looking different as they add sheet rock to the open areas. The owner came by this morning and they plan to have the flooring in the bath pulled tomorrow, all the walls textured and painted by Monday or Tuesday, the cabinets here (they hope) Tuesday residing in our garage, and the cabinet guy here at some point next week. He's finishing up a job and that controls when he can get here. The flooring guy will also pour the pan for the shower and they will start on tiling it as soon as the pan is dry.

Well, as many of you know, we remodeled our kitchen last year. We splurged on an expensive piece of what was supposed to be quartzite for our island - the first picture is of that beautiful stone.

However, apparently this stone wasn't quartzite - it behaved much more like marble. It etched easily if anything acidic touched it (vinegar, pickle juice, wine, etc). It also scratched easily. This was very upsetting because this is one of the main work areas in the kitchen. The second photo is of etching due to a very small splatter of lemon juice. NO BUENO!

Our contractor is good for her word, though, and she replaced the top at no cost to us - she asked what we wanted and after a lot of consideration, we decided to go with teak - and our new island top was delivered today! This is the third photo.

I think it looks amazing. It really warms the room up -with travertine floors and soapstone counter tops we had a lot of stone going on anyway.

That's a shame, but the teak looks really warm and nice.

I agree. I actually like the teak better but that's because it's more my taste. Glad you also have a great contractor. (Now send her to me.)

Too bad about the stone. It really was a beautiful piece of rock. Having said that, the teak looks AMAZING!!!!! Great choice!!

Tek - Love seeing the photo updates! I was especially interested in the flourescent fixture change in the kitchen as I have two of the same type things in my kitchen above the island. I think mine have 4 lights each. I sure would like to change those things out to cans like yours and would have never even thought about the insulation issue. PS - Your toilet paper is coming off the roll in the wrong direction .

HdgtoDnvr - You better pray you never have to. It's a pita.

KA - Love the teak top, it looks great!

My bathroom project should be finished today .
