Hey all,
I am thinking of replacing my dining chairs for my kitchen. I have been a fan of the industrial metal chairs for sometime. There are many brands out there. Some are cheaply made and others are better. They also vary in seat width and height. I have a been a fan of the ones at Restoration Hardware called the Remy chair. They seem to have the best measurements for comfort.
I have searched high and low on the internet and found a few ladies with decor blogs that have them. Most say they are surprisingly comfortable and one said they were not comfortable at all. There we a couple of comments that they can feel cold in the winter. I don't have a RH store near me so this would be an online order. Returns would be hassle if it didn't work out. Right now they are on sale for less than I have seen them in the past. I'd like to jump on it but would like more feedback for anyone that has these metal chairs in general and if you feel they work out well.
I also want to pair them with a table I purchased at Pier1 about 4 years ago. I love the style of the table but dislike the sage green color of the base (it actually looks like a dirty olive green in person). It doesn't really go with anything I have in my kitchen color wise and due to the dingy olive color, you don't even notice the deals of the base, when chairs surround it. I am thinking a fresh distressed white would make it pop against the black matte chairs.
My idea is to paint the base white and distress it a bit. Here is a photo of the table (if you can envision the base being white with some distressing), what do you think of the pairing of this table and chairs? Is the base too intricate for such industrial looking chairs? The chairs are a knock off from a french bistro chair and I think the table may have a french flair to it. I like to mix things up a bit but I am wondering if it would be an odd combination in the end.
Hi! I also like mixing styles together. I think the table and chairs would look fine together, but I would NOT do a distressed look. I would just paint it white or maybe even something with a hint or more of gray if that works with your kitchen and the chairs you might get.
Two reasons I say NO to distressed: the clean white (or other color) table base would pop more against the matte black chairs and I personally hate anything distressed, natural or especially on purpose. But hey, we all have our own tastes, I get that.
Sorry, I do not know if those chairs are comfortable, but I think they are cool.
The only issue is that they can be a bit cold if you sit on them in shorts but they warm up from your body heat even if that happens, so it's not really a big deal. But I can sit in mine comfortable for at least a couple of hours, definitely as long as you'd be sitting at a dining room table for most purposes.

Thanks. I like your chairs. I thought about something similar as they have more of a back on them.
LOL. I just bought two, ( silver toned) but have only sat in momentarily. No discomfort noted. I am going to use them in my garage which I am in the process of decorating (shelving, crafting work station where I am setting up a table with two chairs).
I love the industrial style. It lends itself to so many decor interpretations.
This kind is pretty much what I have, except brighter, shiny silver.
Note: I did not pay this much for them, about $60 less.
Love the style but my home is pretty much Tuscan, so I opted for the garage decor just to have the chairs. I honestly think I have a chair fetish...
Buy one ( or all that you need) and try out and return before the exchange date if you don't feel they work for either comfort or style... I do that and tell the store that up front. Keep the receipt!
Thanks, I like my chairs too - they are actually my extra chairs, I have wood chairs as my main ones but the metals ones came from a family member.
I would be nervous about buying chairs without trying them out. Where I live, we have a really big neighborhood facebook group- do you have anything like that? I would post on it asking if anyone has the RH chairs and if you could try it out. I know that sounds random but I've seen people post stuff like that in my group and someone who has the chair (or whatever was asked about) will say sure, come on over and try it out.
Found some photos of the chairs as dining:
The first looks like what you are proposing. Looks great. Whenever I am considering a design or decor move I go to house.com and do a search. I am rarely disappointed. There are more examples on the site and they look great. Sigh...now I am wanting them in my dining room, too...

I wish I could rep you again. Thank you! I love houzz. I have been scouring pintrest and decor blogs. I eyed the two pics I have close together, to see the combo and I like it. But I look for other points of inspiration online, most of the tables are rectangular with reclaimed wood. So your first photo helped me better visualize it. I have a white kitchen with a marble backslash and a window seat on the other side of the table, so a round table works best. I have tinkered with the idea of changing the way the top of the table looks as well but not sure what it really is. The pier1 site was not helpful. It said the table was made of rubberwood, engineered wood, wood veneer. Not sure if messing with the top of it would be a good idea to give it more of a farmhouse look because I not entirely sure it's wood. I don't mind messing with the table. I got an amazing deal on it years ago as it was a floor sample. The manager gave me 50% off. So I only spent 150 dollars on it but I don't really want to destroy it though lol.
