How much are those compared to the blinds I am suggesting? I LOVE, LOVE plantation shutters (would be fitting since I now live in the South-even though everyone here is from NJ). Also, do you need molding around the windows for them to look right? The one thing the builder skimped on, which almost made us NOT buy the house, was that. I really have not looked into that because 1) expense and 2) I didn't think it would look right without molding.

Funny thing about those dining room curtains, I was thinking about replacing them with some with more color! I bought them for our Michigan house and was wondering if they were too dull. I have to have blinds there because the morning sun is brutal and will fade the table. Plus, we cannot see to eat because the sun is so bright shining in at breakfast!

Yeah, most of our furniture is dark wood. Your thought regarding dark blinds is just what I had been thinking. We've lived here for 2 months now, and I am READY for some blinds! It's such an investment I want to make sure we make the right choice. We only lived in our previous house (in St. Louis) for 3 years, and I loved those blinds - every room had it's own personality, but everything worked seamlessly. Different house, different design, I guess. The open floor plan, I find, makes it much harder to make things coordinate/flow than a traditional floor plan (like our 120 house we just left).

Terrible thing to call this stressful when it's such a trivial matter, but it does stress me out! Of course, everything stresses me out!
The nice thing about white or off white blinds is that they are so versatile and like a blank canvas where you can get some really nice colorful art. bright floral arrangements, some super colorful area rugs and/or colorful pillows and it will make the rooms look really nice plus it will help brighten up your darker furniture. wood pieces and wood floors..

In my previous house my bamboo blinds matched the color of the wood floors. In this house I am scared it will look too dark and too heavy, but I really don't have a clue what to use. It's a very traditional house with a European flair on the outside. Kitchen(white cabinets)/family/dining room are one large space with quite a few windows. I would be so grateful if anyone could give me some suggestions, as I am stumped on this one! Many thanks!
We had our hardwoods stained dark before we moved into the house. Our hardwoods are in our wide hallways and in our dining area. We also replaced carpet in the living area with a mulitcolor tan/brown blend.

When we had blinds made for three windows, we went with brown. And, even though I am a lover of all shades of blue, I am so happy we did. I used roll up blinds in tones of brown for my dining and living areas, and brown, wooden blinds for our front room which is a combo home office and craft room.

My walls are various tones of gray, I have white trim throughout, and I've added a lot of blue to my living area. The shades and blinds look very good to me. I am happy with the look.
