I am trying to achieve the look of a curtain rod that runs the entire length of my living room. I have three French doors that lead to the deck and need to cover them with something sheer to prevent the floor from fading.

I would like a rod that is bronze/bronze colored, about one inch in diameter and 22 feet in length. Obviously, it will need to be sectioned at the point that it is supported between the windows, but I want it to look like one continuous rod. I really, really don't want a telescoping rod!

Does anyone know where I can order something like this?

If you go with a wood one, there is a connector peice that you screw into each end of it. The only thing you would have to do is make sure you use enough brackets to hold the weight.
Graber at Lowe's: Zinc Wood Pole Connector

If you end up going with a metal extentable rod, they make just an extender that you insert into the original rod.
Penneys has some pretty ones JCPenney : Chris Madden 1&frac14 Rod Collection (http://www5.jcpenney.com/jcp/X6E.aspx?deptid=60156&catid=60452&grptyp=ENS&itemi d=14df7c8&dep=WINDOW&pcat=Hardware&cat=Decorative+ Rods&refpagename=X3%252Easpx&refdeptid=60156&refca tid=60196&cmAMS_T=X3&cmAMS_C=C1&CmCatId=60156|6019 6 - broken link)

My suggestion was going to be wood also. I used Kirsch wood rods in my first home and really liked them. If you check the sales flyers, you should be able to get them at least 20% off.

Would love to see pictures when you're done!

Hmmmm. I'm wondering if you could perhaps fabricate something from copper tubing found in the plumbing dept. ???

I once made some short curtain rods this way. I went for sort of a warm pseudo-industrial feel.

I love going to the hardware store and using objects for purposes for which they were never intended.

The length of copper tubing might not bear the weight of the curtain fabric without bending.......

Yeah, I thought about that, but the OP only said it had to "look" like one continuous rod, not actually be one piece. Plus, she mentioned "sheers" vs. heavy drapery.

My rods were ~ 50" X 1" and only held lightweight cotton sheers. Three brackets (one in the middle) and worked well.

you need a rail type system if you want to slide the curtains from end to end. i'd probably do that with strut beams from home depot

i do have a couple of long curtain rods. i just bolted 2 ikea curtain rods together and put the supports at this joint

Have you tried Continental Window Fashions? They are very nice and might be able to help (they have a large online store). I have used electrical conduit in the past (much cheaper than copper) and painted it with a bronze paint. I think it runs in 10 foot sections and easy to cut with a pipe cutter. You will need some braces along the way which you can buy in the drapery department of Lowes or Home Depot - just use the ones for 1" rods.

Lightbulb Electrical Steel Pipe Conduit

I bought 2 pieces of electrical steel pipe conduit to span the 16ft of my living room windows. I primed and spray painted it black. Then I took the decorative curtain rod end pieces and screwed them into wood cut out for the diameter of the pipe. Wallla = job finished....lot cheaper than a curtain rod.

I have a roughly 12 ft long picture window in my living room that I was having trouble finding a rod for. I bought PVC pipe at Home Depot and cut it to the length I need, then primed it with spray paint, and spray painted it black with a coat of enamel spray paint over top of that to prevent chipping. For the end pieces, I super glued styrofoam inside the 2 ends, and bought 2 finials that have the screws in the ends, and pushed them into it. They look exactly like a store bought curtain rod. I hung them up with brackets on each end, and one in the center, to support the weight of the curtains. All in all, this rod cost me less than $20.
