If you read my other threads you'll notice that I've been waiting for an apartment in Nycha Marlboro Houses. Well the good news is that I've finally been called to view an apartment. Just one only. Well this apartment has no closet doors. I was told to use curtains. Can you believe that! Just about everyone have closet doors these days. Well Im getting this apartment with Section 8 so I cant really complain. But will Section 8 approve of this? I would like a chance to view another apartment like the ones that they are remodeling in other buildings of Marlboro. I wonder if I can get them to give me one of the remodeled apartments.

Can't you work with it? It's just closet doors and besides, you're on a wait list.

You're on Section 8, you don't have any room to be picky about something that has nothing to do with habitability.

I purposely put in curtains instead of closet doors because I think the doors are a waste of space (the ones that open like regular doors or the ones that fold) and I don't like the ones that slide on tracks.

Depends on how old the place is. If it's NY, then curtains for things aren't so unusual. Even bathrooms use curtains in some places.

we dont have door on any of our closets in our home. For my girls though, we used beads for my older girl, and similar type deal but w/fake flowers for the little one. Turned out really cute. Space saver too!

Check with your case manager with Section 8 - they may not approve of lack of closet doors. Even if they "require" the landlord install closet doors the landlord may opt not to do it and pass on your tenancy.

We also do curtains on our closets for the kids. They always break those cheapy folding doors and this way they can pick their own design on their curtains and it is a space saver

I was in a trailer. No bathroom door, and no door on the "closet". If I had been single, I would have put a small mattress on the floor of the "closet" and slept in there, and used a wardrobe I made out of a bookshelf I got for next to nothing to hang my clothes in. Oh...and we used a curtain on the bathroom, instead of me getting a folding door and a piece of board for a "header".
