We are building a house and the 2nd floor will have 9 ft ceilings. The kids will have a Jack and Jill bathroom. I am going to get identical blackout curtains for each, but in different colors. I wanted to hear opinions on length and reasons why you would choose a certain length. Thank you in advance for your help!

Kids room- window length. Example- 5' window, 63" panel.
A 95" panel would look to formal for a kids room. Or how about no panel. Maybe just a valance over wood blinds or better yet- plantation shutters (no cords).

We have considered Plantation Shutters in the past but how much light do they keep out during the daytime?

What about window sheers, panels & valances?
Those look really cute: Girls' & Boys' Kids Rooms’ Window Curtains & Window Coverings | Pottery Barn Kids no??
Sheers and panels window maybe 3 inches longer than the window. It looks good and is safer for kids - they will not play with it, hide, pull and trip over.

Yes those look great-love them! I really like floor length curtains but I am seeing from reading it is not probably the best option-so 63" is probably what would work best for a standard size window in a kids room-right?

Depends of the kids age... Long panels would be ok, if safe and you like them; sheers are great window cover - they add a touch of warmth and style to your room, filter and soften sunlight, and give privacy without blocking all the light. I would consider long panels, but keep the sheers just few inches longer than the window. Kids love to play at the window, long sheers would be on their way. But then, of course I don't know your kids and their habits, so is up to you what length you decide to use

It depends on what type of look you want .From an aesthetic point of view floor lenght will create a more formal look and just below sill will be more casual. As far as child safety just below sill is better. Are these going to be side panels or draw with a cord. Side panels are safer, cord poses more of a risk. If you want the option to block out light, the layer look works well. A treatment such as a wood blind or what I think is the best for light blocking is a blackout cordless cellular shade whick will block out 95% of light and side panels over that which will block out the rest and enhance the look of the room.

I have plantation shutters on all my windows. When closed tightly, they keep out ALL light. I even have to turn on a lamp during the day if I walk into a room and the shutters are closed.
