I like the look of these mitsumata branches but they are white and so is my wall color...so I was wanting to paint them red because I have a nice big 4 piece red painting in the living room as well. Or perhaps bright green because I have a lot of black in my room as well.
Any ideas where I can find red mitsumata branches or perhaps recommend what type of paint I could use to paint these branches without making them look cheap?
Oh gosh, you can go down to Walmart or a hardware store and pick up your ideal color of red spray paint. If you want to age them down a smidge, try putting a bit of black acryic paint on a paper plate, dip an old paintbrush into the paint....wipe off most of the paint, then dry brush on your red branches, just to "dirty it up a bit". It takes away the cheesy spray painted appearance. Have fun with it. Yeah, I would not go to the expense of getting new ones, especially when you'll have a whole bunch of the paint left to do other little projects. Cool idea, btw.
I would avoid spray painting. Spray paint has that smell, which won't go away when it dries. Everyone will always know they are spray painted. If you must paint them, at least do it with a brush and acrylic paint. Plus, acrylic comes in so many more colors, you can pick the exact shade you want.
I've never seen these in red. Willow branches are often died, but these are generally in their natural color. You might check at hobby lobby or some place like that.

You can buy low-odor spray paint now. In fact, you can buy "latex" spray paint now. It is not necessary to have that "spray paint odor" any longer.
I think i'll go for the acrylic paint and I like the idea of aging it!
