I will be in the market for a new vehicle when my lease is up (but that's not until March 2015). I am looking forward to getting out from behind a minivan wheel, and thinking that an Acura MDX will be my next car. I've loved MDX's from the beginning, though I didn't really like their styling for a couple of years recently. Lately they have been catching my eye again in a good way. I test drove one not long ago and really liked how it handled.
That said, there are some features about the 2013 and older models that turned me off. But they seem to be incorporating those missing features on the 2014. The deal is, in 2014 they are switching to a CVT transmission. That's not an issue for me - I currently have one in my Nissan and like it. But I was planning on trying to get a 2014 model so I can get a better deal when I turn my lease in. But I try not to buy 1st year redesigns either. So would you try for a new redesigned 2014 model, or would you pay more for the 2015 model?
Your decision will depend on the (minor) updates in 2015, and the amount of savings from buying a 2014. Since we know nothing about 2015, this question will be hard to answer.
I'm going to assume that any 2014 --> 2015 changes will be incremental given Acura's past slowness to update their vehicles. And since they are doing a pretty big redesign of the 2014 engine making it a CVT, offering 2 wheel drive, push start button on the MDX (seriously - why has it taken this long?), I doubt there will be much changed for the 2015 year model, unless the 2014 has tons of issues. Or unless it's a body style change.
