Find a used Porsche Boxster S. Better car and more power.
Unreliable, expensive to maintain, looks dated, 300 pounds heavier.
There's a reason you can pick up a ~14 year old S2000 for the same price as a ~14 year old Boxster S. Partly it's the maintenance, partly it's that new the S2000 was just a way better car for the money than the Boxster S. Boxster would be easier to live with as a daily driver though, if not on the wallet.
As for when it will get replaced, if we follow Honda's normal timeline, expect them to produce the new NSX for about 10 years and then maybe get around to it. Tune back in in 2025, in the meantime do what everyone else did and go to a different brand. The BRZ STi may eventually come, meaning you can buy something that's not far off the original S2000 minus the convertible.

Have you ever owned one? It doesn't sound like it. Maintenance on mine consisted of spark plugs at the 60k mark, and oil changes. No problems at all. The S2K on the other hand was known for having an extremely weak clutch that was not suited for the stock engine.
As far as pricing goes, the same year Boxster with the same number of miles as an S2K goes for more in my area. Right now, there is a 2004 S2K with only 3600 miles on it, and they are asking 19,900. A similar Boxster with that low of miles would run $25k or more.
People always knock expensive cars as being a bad value. Well, if the goal was to find the best bang for the buck, a Boxster would do poorly. But the reason people buy a Boxster is to get the BEST two seat sports car there is.
Truth be told, I thought a Boxster was overpriced... then I drove one. It was far and away better than my friends S2000. The sound alone while cruising with the top down in a mid engine car is so much more satisfying than what comes out of an S2K.

Fanboi much?
There are several better just in the Porsche family. Boxster isn't really even that expensive, next you'll be telling us how everyone is knocking the Corvette because it's a bad value
I remember the early years. it was a TR-4 that actually kept working. I wish I had bought one and kept it.
