They are an immense help in the dark. My parking lot at work isn't lit, in my mirrors I see zilch, The backup cam gives me the ability to at least see behind me.

Its to see directly behind you, yes. But people are so fixated on the camera that they dont look around them, or watch the cars beside them either. People drive for crap anyways, and I know its not the cameras fault they cant drive, but it adds to their laziness and lack of situational awareness. People shouldnt be too lazy to swivel their heads around, look behind them, and out the side windows to see where there car is. Theyd rather use their technology than their eyes.

Smoking is a bad habit. A backup camera is an accessory.

It's not simply an issue of laziness. Parallel parking a large vehicle or one with poor rearward visibility is significantly easier with a back up camera. My car isn't equipped with a back up camera and I see fine out of it while driving (I actually turn my head around when changing lanes, backing up, etc) but with the car being a coupe the sloping rear glass and tiny rear side windows make it difficult to tell how much distance I actually have when backing up. A backup camera makes a big difference in this situations.

It could be useful parallel parking a Yukon or a Suburban, but an Accord? Cmon. I used to work for Chevy/GMC, moving Suburbans all over the lot, into the shop, etc, and we never had to rely on those stupid things. Its simply learning your vehicle's dimensions, something modern drivers have no grasp of. My car (Focus) has horrible blind spots, but never once did I tell myself I needed to install a camera. Rather I pride myself on knowing my car, being able to wing it in and out of spots like it was one of my own appendages. People should do the same instead of staring all zombie-like into a screen. My sister had me use that stupid camera on her Explorer, but its so vague it sucks! I just turned my head around, used the passenger seat as a brace, and used my own eyes to back out. Its quicker, safer, and more efficient, IMO.
