For the exact same price, I have a choice of buying a dark gray 2012 Touring Elite with 59k miles or a silver 2012 Touring EX-L w/RES with 30k miles. (I prefer the silver color if that makes any difference)

Of the two, which would you choose? Both are certified pre-owned. Condition of both cars is similar.

Touring EX-L?
No such thing and I am assuming you are talking about the EX-L with the rear entertainment system.
For this car, 30k is nothing so I would take the Touring as it comes with the Navi and the HID.

Thanks. That was a typo. I meant EX-L w/RES.

With Honda's transmission reputation, I would want the 100K miles to come later than sooner.

If the touring on that model has run flat tires; I'd pass .They wear fast and are expensive to change since they have special wheels. There are forum thread about replacing them on Honda forums. If not then your ok choosing either you like. I go the less mileage ( near half or two year average use) personally as the NAV is easily replaced with a GPS.

The Touring Elite has the stock Michelin tires (not run flats).

Some of the other 'bells & whistles' the TE has that the EX-L doesn't are:

voice enabled navigation
6-spd transmission (28mpg vs 27mpg)
HID headlights
fog lights
ultra-wide screen entertainment
front/back parking sensors
blind spot indicator
turn signal lights in the side mirrors
18" wheels (vs 17" on the EX-L)

Ended up getting the Touring Elite with 59k miles. The dealership actually listed the car as a regular Touring model so I got a crazy deal on the car. After I got home, I also found out that the factory remote starter was installed in the car (found the remote starter manuals in the glove compartment). Just need to buy a remote starter remote to get it working.

Honda's 6 speed transmission in the Odyssey, Pilot and Ridgeline is much better and not a flawed design like the ones made around 2000-2002. The Odyssey can usually easily make it to 200k miles.

OP, be digilent about changing the transmission fluid every 30k miles.

No doubt that the engine will get to 200K miles. It will be a bit longer before the reliability of these trans. The flaws transmission were not just the 2000-2002.

I do agree that the key is changing trans fluid often. While it's a relatively simple task so not worth the risk of not changing it. One need to ask why so frequent?
