Anyone ever directly compare these vehicles? I'm talking about the 4 cylinder versions of each, the Honda Accord EXL vs Acura TLX 4 cyl with Tech. The Acura runs about $6k more. Is it worth it? Very good discounts can be had on both right now.
I had the same choice in May 2013 when I got my current car. I was considering a 2011 Accord V6 against a 2009-2010 Acura TL. Went with the Accord because it's more car for the money but it was very close. On the higher trim levels (like Advance) there are things on the Acura that you can't get on the Accord, but in your comparison I would say that the extra 6 grand isn't worth. I would recommend getting a V6 Accord though. Gas mileage is barely different than the 4 cylinder and it runs smoother. The V6 will run about 2 grand more than a 4 cylinder, but it's still 4 grand cheaper than the TLX. Don't get me wrong, the TLX is a great car as well but the Accord is a better value. The Accord drives like a luxury car. I test drove a 2016 Accord V6 yesterday (Mon, Oct. 5) and was amazed at how much smoother and more refined it felt than my 2011 Accord V6, which is a very smooth, refined car in its own right. I test drive the new Hondas when they're redesigned (I am going to school for journalism and want to be a car reviewer) but am not getting a new car for several more years - after all, the 1992 in my username is my birth year!
If there was a 2-3 grand difference, I would spring for the Acura. For 6 grand I would pass and get the Accord. Actually I would get a fully equipped v6 Accord and still save myself around 4 grand.
The TLX is nice but its styling is a bit dated. If I didnt know and someone pulled up with a TLX and told it was an 09, I'd believe them.
Another main difference is the transmission. With the Honda you'll get a cvt whereas with the TLX you'll get an 8-speed dual clutch.
The V6 Accord gets a traditional 6 speed, although 4 cylinder has excellent gas mileage. I'm sure the 4 cylinder Accord is much better fuel economy than 6 cyl for city driving, but what about highway driving? Are they close?

The Honda Accord has an average sized trunk while the TLX has a smaller trunk. The small trunk and cramped back seat of the TLX makes it unusable for me. The passenger volume of the TLX is only a cramped 93.3 cubic feet. The Accord is 100.8 cubic feet. Even if these cars were the same price I would take the Accord since it is more spacious and comfortable.
As someone who owns a TLX, I love it. However, there are glitches with the electrical system. It automatically plays Pandora when I'm trying to get it to play anything else. I also don't like the gps and don't use it. Still have no idea how to get the bluetooth to work right. Drives me nuts. Performance wise, its a great car and fun to drive. But overall, I'd buy it again even with these issues. Great gas mileage and yet sporty and can get up and go. What a step up from my Civic.

The TLX was sized to attract previous owners of the 04-08 TL. Trunk space didn't seem bad and the back seats recline. It's a nice car, but not having Android Auto is a huge strike. If I had to buy now, I'd get the 2016 Accord EXL Navi/Sensing, but I should be good for another few years.
