We are looking to replace 14 windows in our house. We currently have wood with horrific storm windows. We recently received a quote for Alside Excalibur's. I've read every message board I could find to find out about these windows and the negative reviews just say they wouldn't use these windows, but they also didn't say that they have them and hate them. I have a feeling that those reviews are from sellers of other brands.
I am looking for homeowners that have had these windows installed within the last 2 years. I especially want to find out how they held up this winter. Were they drafty?
I recently had replacement windows put in my house. I too received a quote for Alside Excaliburs but wound up going with Simonton 5500's. I don't think the Excaliburs are necessarily "terrible" just that you can do much better for the same amount of money (or less money, in my case).
You would think if the negative opinions about Excaliburs were all biased, there would be contrarian opinions somewhere out there, but I couldn't find them while shopping. Most of the positive information was marketing fluff, while the negative information came from actual installers. You know how the saying goes, if it walks like a duck...We went in another direction. Good luck.
WHen I looked into window options, read reviews, researched and considered samples, I liked Marvin hte best for hte cost. However I needed ot match historical windows in order to maintain the historical integrity of our house, so I was only considering wood windows. I was convinced to go with a local independant window maker and ended up wishing that I had stuck with Marvin. The samples that they showed me were very good quality and only a little more expensive.
