So I was in my office last night and I heard a gurgling noise coming from the bathtub drain in the guest bathroom, which is right across the hall. I told my wife and she said she had just flushed the toilet in the master bathroom. I went back into the guest bathroom and told my wife to flush the master bathroom toilet again. Sure enough the tub gurgled again. Both bathrooms are on the third floor of our townhome (built in 2006). I'm thinking clogged/blocked vent pipe? Any other possibilities? There is no odor. Should I be calling a plumber or is this something I can fix myself?

that is a classic sign of a venting issue.

Did you run water to see if it went away? My traps evaporate quickly here in Nevada in the summer months. I run water a couple times a month in our spare bath.

Do you have a septic system or are you connected to a public sewer?

I haven't run water down the tub drain but will try when I get home from work today.

Whenever I've had gurgling it's always that the water in the trap has evaporated. Run water in every drain for a minute.

Okey, you might be onto something. We don't have kids and it's been a while since we've had overnight company. It's probably been a couple of months since we last used the tub. I'll do that when I get home later.

Ran the tub for a few minutes and then flushed the toilet, no gurgling from the tub.

Don't forget the sink. My parents put olive oil in the sink, and tub traps when they go away for the summer. Oil rises to top and reduces evaporation.
