I know what it is. But, I don't see how the smell can "attach itself to the room" if you don't even partake in said room.
If the person in question did a LOT of toking, they will carry the smell with them and deposit it around where ever they go. Somewhat like a person with poor personal hygiene.

I'm 78 and I know what toking is. Was. Well, anyway, I'm aware. Not all old people were born that way. We did have a youth, and many of us misspent it. Typical of youth to think that they invented everything.
Open the windows. Hang the offending garments on the outdoor clothesline if they can't be laundered. Shampoo the upholstery. And tell Grandpa that he needs smoke outside, in the nude.
It is amazing the amount of people that know what "toking" means ... or do they.
