What's it like living on a small lake? It would be smack dab in the middle of town, but on a private, gated road. This would be in Arkansas where mosquitoes abound. Would it be worse living on the lake. I am really enamored with this property as it has beautiful views from the deck along with boating and fishing.
In my case; frogs. Breeding season comes every spring and every evening sounds like a million frog rock concert only to followed by the million cricket rock concert after the frogs leave. Mosquitoes only seem to be a problem in the early evening.

I am not afraid of snakes. I have been good friends with a 12' Indian Rock Python and a slightly smaller boa constrictor. I know there could be Cottonmouths and Copperheads, but they don't frighten me.
Lack of privacy, drunks, noisy boaters plowing the water at all hours, temperature inversions allowing you to hear the arguments of residents across the lake, possible increased crime, septic issues, sometimes a smell from algae blooms, ducks pooing all over, restrictions on what you can and can't do, and a few other things.
Some people really get in to lake living and love it. I'm sure they will chime in. When I was growing up we spent a lot of time on lakes and waterways, camping on shore or on the boat all over the northeast and northeast Canada. Some relatives had a lakeside residence and I got to experience that as well. It is fun for a while, but I grew tired of it. If you are extroverted, you might not.

I know it needs some work, but I can't get over the thought of sitting on my deck looking out at the lake. I have a large family that would enjoy coming for cookouts and such. I will enjoy sitting outside in the mornings drinking my coffee. It doesn't look like it would be very busy with boaters and whatever.
Another thing to consider is the ownership of the lake. Is it community owned? How is it maintained, who makes those decisions and who pays for them? Is there a dam? I love living on the lake, but that assumes it is a well maintained one and that often comes with a price.
