35 squares for a 1800 sg ft house and garage seems rather high. You do know a square is 100 square feet.
So how can it be that you have 17 squares of waste?
So depending on pitches and quality of products figure $5k to $12k.
Uhh, you do know that roofing squares have to do with the actual square footage of the roof surface, and has nothing to do with the square footage of the house, right?
Depending on the roof slope, size of overhangs, hips and valleys, & dormers, 30 squares for the house may not be too far out of line.
To get a quote that means something, get it from a local business that can actually do the work, and not from the internet. Depending on labor rates in your area, you might someone that will install shingles for $50/square, or it could be $300/square. The cost of the shingles can vary a lot too.

The pricing will also vary based on what you want done. Does the decking (plywood/manufactured board underneath the shingles) need to be patched or replaced, or is it still in good condition? Does the ventilation need to be upgraded, whether by adding a ridge vent, turbines, or soffit vents? Do you have to worry about ice damning in winter? Do you want a full system that includes a long, transferable GAF warranty?
All of these questions affect the work that should be done, and a proper roofer will be able to answer all of these questions. I would get 3-4 quotes to start, and ask each roofer general questions. You'll get some different opinions about some of these matters (such as the amount of ventilation necessary and whether plywood or manufactured board is preferable for decking), but you'll get an idea of the work that should be done and the overall cost.
