We are new to the area. We have a well on our property for water. Since moving into the new house, we are getting stains in our toilets - running down the sides of the bowl where the water runs down when flushing. Are these stains from the minerals in the well water? I have tried all the usual cleaners to no avail. I am thinking I need some secret formula. The house is only 6 months old.
Anyone have these stains and used a secret formula! Or have any idea how to prevent the stains in the first place!
May be iron. We had that problem but got a filter on our system. As for the stains, the only thing that worked for me was pumice stone. Had to use elbow grease but they did finally come out.
In Santa Clara, CA the city tap water is well water and is really hard (lots of minerals). Pumice stone and elbow grease was the only thing that worked. I hired someone else to do that a few times a year. Nope, not getting that up close and friendly with my toilet.
That started happening to us about a month ago. So glad we moved since then. I left them a wooden toilet seat to replace the old one with. The water had already got us all ill anyway.
Do research on that kind of water if you are bathing in it. Very bad. I wouldn't drink it either
We had those vertical stains at the back of the toilet in a powder room. The water is very hard in this area. DH tried everything (he said lol), and so did I. Cleaners didn't work, pumice stone was slippery...
So I headed to Home Depot, saw the screens, and thought they might work. And they did, like a charm! Just cut a small square from one of the sheets, and scrub. I didn't even need to turn off the water. The screen "grabs" the porcelain perfectly, and allowed me to scrub back and forth, up and down until the stain disappeared.

There's a product on Amazon called Pumie Toilet Bowl Ring Remover...basically pumice stone on a plastic handle so you can scrub without getting up close and personal with the toilet water.
