I went with a fujitsu model AOU9RL2. it's a 101 out here today where I am. i'm using it to cool off 172 sq ft tiny house and it's doing it with no problems since it's 67 degrees in here now.
We just Mitsubishi (MSZ-GE12NA). So far, so good but it's only being used for a 200 sq ft room. Haven't used the heat yet.
I was excited when I saw the wireless thermostat mentioned above but not ready to shell out $300.
mine came with the remote but the fujitsu unit cost more than the Mitsubishi unit so that's where they got me. though it was less painfull than hearing 300 bucks for a remote. mine doesn't have the built in heat pump since I live where its hot most of the year I can get by with a ceramic heater or i'll be installing a Dickenson marine propane fireplace
I've researched both and I would get the Mitsubishi. Their cold climate heating ability is really terrific. There are demonstrated reviews that show them pushing measurable heat with outside temps as low as 10degrees. That's simply amazing.
We had our home sized and an estimate of $14,000 will do our 2,800 sq ft home (roughly). We're saving for that option.
We have no ductwork and the house is entirely EBB / pellet stove, so this is an attractive option for us, however any unit we install HAS to be able to perform in a cold climate. The Mitsu fits the bill.
I need to make a correction. The quote was for two desupyer heat pumps for the upstairs level at $6,800. The $14,000 was if we were to add 3 additional indoor units (1 additional upstairs, 2 downstairs).
We would have opted for the 2 units first, and we think it would have made our home comfortable.
Just an FYI- We had a Mitsubishi system installed yesterday. 2 indoor units coupled to the MXZ-4C36NA 36,000 BTU outdoor unit. Low set temp cut off is 15deg F. The indoor units are 1) 24,000 BTU MSZ-GL24NA located in the main living area (open floor plan encompassing living room, kitchen and dining room, vaulted ceilings) and; 2) 9,000 BTU MSZ-GL09NA located in our master bedroom.
We are in our swing temp season- hot during the day, cold(er) at night. The main floor indoor temp was 73 when they completed install. Within 2.5 hours of finishing install the temp was 69 degrees. We set both units at 70deg and let them go. Later that evening the outdoor temps fell to about 42deg, the unit automatically switched to heat pump mode and kept the indoor temps precisely at 70deg.
The units make virtually no noise- both indoor and outdoor. It's unbelievable. In years past we have run one casement window unit and the largest portable A/C unit in the main living area and they simply could not keep up. This thing brought all that free air down to temp in 2.5 hours. I can hardly wait to see how the heat pumps perform during the winter months.
It's 38deg out this morning. We left the units off last night, so current indoor temp is 64deg. Just switched it to heat mode, I'm going to see how long it takes to get to 70deg.
