I've just gotten a propane patio heater for my deck. I'm looking at covers for it but wondering, does it need to be covered between every use? I'm in central IL and we do get severe weather in the summer in the form of thunderstorms and occasionally hail. Or does it only really need to be covered "off season" through the winter months? What do most of you do?
Also, is it practical to use it for short periods such as 30 minutes at a time several times a day? Or is it really better used only for longer periods of time?
Patio heaters are more about function- only the anal are worried about how they look!
Here in the ATL, I rarely ever see a cover on one.
Yeah, why would I be worried about how they look? This is not a "decorative" cover with some pattern that is kept on all the time! It is a cover to protect it. My question is, how much protecting does it need? Is it best to put it on between uses, for example, or just before a rain? Or only during the winter when I'm not using it?
Also, is it "bad" or somehow damaging to use the heater for 30 minutes at a time 8 times through the day or should it just be used for longer periods like a few hours at a time? Like, is there some "igniter" I'll be wearing out or something?

OK. Clearly you didn't get the jest of my post. I'll put it in simpler terms- forget the cover!

Nope - totally missed your jest...I do think the weather in Illinois may be a little different than Atlanta but what do I know.
