Obviously my comment was in jest.

Imagine you called a roofing company to fix a couple broken shingles on your roof. You tell them go ahead and fix it, knowing it doesn't cost more than a couple hundred dollars. It doesn't make it OK for them to charge a thousand dollars simply because "you knew they were doing work" and "you didn't ask what it would be".


You go from.. "Offer them a fair market price" to "You can't haggle afterwards". Make up your mind or don't give advice.

What a strange interpretation of the facts. It's completely incorrect, and really quite strange.

I think you're confused because he said he watched the guy install the pressure gauge (a glorified sticker)- that's not the same as watching him install the fan. He didn't authorize the fan installation. The pressure gauge was just used as a sales tactic to show that he needed a fan.

And your last sentence is just outright weird.
