Question #1: Why isn't there a Garage/Tools section at City-Data?

Question #2: Can anyone tell me what this is called and how much it's worth? In trying to sell it, and I can't find anything similar online. It was given to me a while back. Thanks!

I'm pretty sure that's a picture frame-j-I-g.

Most that I've seen are NOT free-standing- but table top versions.

Being triangular, I'm not sure it's specifically for picture frames. It is definitely some kind of clamping ***, but nothing I recognise.

It's a framing clamp. You can use it to secure door or window frames to hold them square while you fasten them. Pretty handy if you need it or a huge space sucker if you don't!

I'm chemically blonde, but it's not triangular - note the 2 L-brackets at 90* on the right-most section? So the bottom right corner of a frame fits there, and the left and top adjust accordingly. I think

Well, I would offer it for sale... $20 to whoever can explain to you what it does.

Exactly.

I dabble with woodworking, and a relative and professional woodworker gave it to me. It has taken up alot of space over the past year, and I haven't used it once. I mainly kept it to be polite and say I had it if they came over, but it's taking up too much space. He's disabled now, so he won't use it if I gave it back.

If you are keeping it to be polite, it would not be polite to sell it without asking your relative what it is and whether he would let you sell it FOR HIM since you have no extra room. For all you know, he let you have it as an 'honor'.

YAY! What do I win? j/k

To be honest, when I first looked at the pic I thought it was homemade. (Made really well, and pretty ingenious too.) After hearing that it was given to you by a professional woodworker I wonder if I'm right.... Frame clamps can be had for a little or a lot, depending on how well they're made. If you really want to sell it, maybe put it on Craig's list with the pic and hope a carpenter sees its value. But if you sell it, maybe you should take your relative out for a meal with the proceeds? Good luck!

How about asking the guy who gave it to you what it's for and what it does? He apparently didn't use it either, and got tired of taking up space in his garage so he pawned it off on you...
He probably has no clue what's for either...
