With VRBO or AirB&B we don't need to buy a vacation house - for a tiny fraction of what it would cost to buy and maintain one, we help contribute to someone else's. Plus it's always in the location we want to visit. W1n!

It depends. I knew a guy who lived in Philly and owned a place at the Jersey shore. He stayed there for a couple of weeks every June and September. He went down there at least every couple of weeks to check on it. He was always fixing something or painting. He really seemed to enjoy that. He rented it in the summer to cover the taxes and maintenance costs.

Our kids inlaws had a place at the jersey shore. After getting flooded multiple times lately they finally sold it. It just became a nightmare to insure and deal with.
