Last night after 40+ years of painting my nails, I dropped and broke a bottle of nail polish..... it looked like I had killed a small animal - of course it was red polish!!
I got 95% of it cleaned up - but there is a faint tinge of pink to the tiles - they are 12 x 12 fake Travertine type tiles and I'm need to figure out what will take the rest of the polish off. do I sit on the floor with polish remover again tonight??? any suggestions???
#0000 steel wool, DRY!
use DRY only, without any added solvent/soap/cleaner, etc.
you can thank me later!
also great for cleaning shower glass/windows/windshields/shower tile, etc.
ALWAYS use dry, and flip often - keeps working till pad is gone.
use ONLY #0000 steel wool (#000, #00, #0, #1, etc coarser will SCRATCH ...)
OMG!! you guys are great -
I wish I had watched the YouTube video last night!! live and learn.
One of my maintenance guys is bringing me a small glass jar of lacquer thinner to try - but I may try full strength acetone nail polish remover first.
thanks all!
I would NOT use any solvents at all; reason? solvents will further thin the pigments and dissolve surface finishes allowing pigments to SEEP deeper into the pores of the flooring, FOREVER out of reach of removal, resulting in a permanent deep stain.....
#0000 steel wool will SAFELY micro-polish the pigments away from the TOP of the surface finish WITHOUT destroying the surface finish!
Kind of like the way toothpaste works on teeth (you wouldn't use sulfuric acid to clean your teeth, would you ??)
I was moving the bottle when it flew out of my hand and smashed....
I used the acetone nail polish remover and its gone!! slight darker tone to the grout - but not gonna worry about that. and got all the splotches of red polish off my fingers too!
Do you think steel wool would work on dried nail polish on a granite counter top? We have a little patch. It's clear polish so you can ignore it, but I'd love to remove it if I could. Been afraid to try and make it worse.

#0000 should work fine without damaging finish.
You can test first by rubbing the 0000 in an inconspicuous spot to make sure it doesn't dull/harm finish.
#0000 can't scratch glass - and I think granite is just as hard, so the granite itself simply cant be damaged, but i have no idea what surface finish or sealer may be on there; it may simply need touch-up in the one spot....
