Does anyone have a recommendation for a good paint sprayer that we could handle ourselves? We need to sand and repainted our kitchen cabinet doors. We will detach them and paint them outside.

If that goes well, we will move on to inside doors that are six paneled solid wood.

I have read various reviews but would like to hear personal experiences. Something not too heavy would be preferred. We are pretty handy and generally do all our own painting but have never sprayed.

Thanks for any insights.

I second the Purdy brushes. I used them for my cabinets. Turned out great.

What kind of paint do you plan on using?

Do you want to buy; or would you rather rent?

The problem with brushes- regardless of the quality- is most people don't use them correctly; and/or "work" the paint too much. That's what creates the "brush marks". The best method without spraying is a foam roller.

This will be going over latex. We have used oil based in the past elsewhere but the latex clean up is easier for us so we will stick with that. Same color - white. We usually use Duron or Bejamin Moore paint but open to suggestions.

We have always used Purdy paint brushes but it just doesn't seem as smooth as spraying.

We prefer to buy as this will take place over several weeks or months, just doing one or two doors at a time.

We are retired and in no hurry plus we are pretty picky.

Well, if you're going to be using latex- use an airless sprayer. And I'm not referring to those cheap-ass handheld things like "Wagner". if you have a HF near you check out their airless sprayer.

We do have a Harbor Freight near us. One airless sprayer is on sale down from $299 - is that too cheap?

Thanks for the advice.

Keeping the brush edge wet, one direction, one smooth stroke. That worked well for me.

Husband used this on our kitchen cabinets. It was quite the process for him but they turned out great.
