I've been mopping up dog urine, loose poop, vomit, cat vomit, etc. off carpets for more than 40 years and still do. I put multiple folded paper towels on the wet spots, and stand on the paper towels to soak up the liquid, move the paper towels and replace them until all the liquid comes up and stops showing on even a single paper towel. Then I use several clorox wet wipes to vigorously rub the area. Cleans up the stain and the smell.
Or maybe you're just used to the smell. It happens.
We have engineered wood flooring and it gets scratched, a lot. Our dog has scratched the hell out of it. It also dents. It also shows all of the dog slobber and anything else that gets on it, so constant cleaning with the mop is a must unless you're like me and just say "eff it". The positive is that it looks pretty, when it is shined up of course. I like it good enough, but not enough to put it in a kitchen ever again. I actually am digging wood look tile and LVP. LVP is my darling now because of ease of cleaning.
Our family room will be tile because the pool is outside and you'd be nuts to put a wood floor in a room that gets lots of water dripping traffic.
