what is the best roofing material to reflect heat? our master bedroom is in a converted attic with very little space between our ceiling and the roof. The house is new to us, so I'm not sure if there is insulation in the small space between. the roof has to be replaced in the next few years, so I thought it best to try and get something energy efficient.

we're in the deep south, so it gets dern hot!

Thx

cosmic answered this question in an attic fan thread- he said reflectix with air flow channels kept clear kept attic space to dull roar @ 80 degrees-ish. I've always gotten great advice from him.

the spray insulation while it does good for insulating and keeping noise down, it is VERY expensive.

Galvalume covered sheet steel with a gap between the metal and the actual wood roof with the gap vented at the top and bottom.

I found putting 3/4 inch foam insulation between perlin's (furring strips) will make a world of difference with metal roof.
