Leaned my lesson years ago with rayon. Too much "fussing" to try and make it right after washing. I see gorgeous stuff I'd like to have (clothing wise) but pass it by without looking back. By the way, I did wash and dry the spread...had to as my dog vomited on it. (He has his own bed but got up on mine just for this special event!) Turned out great on warm water cycle and drying on medium setting.
Get a sex change operation and you can wash anything.

Va-Cat...I never once thought about it being color fast or not. Thankfully, it was ivory and didn't need to match anything else in the room if it had faded, but it could have been bright red and needing to match drapes in the same room. Good point!
Yeah, it only makes sense to dry clean if there's batting.
Had a HORRIBLE experience with an expensive quilt from Anthropologie that the drycleaner took it upon himself to wash instead of dryclean. Colors faded, batting bunched and lumped up.
You could probably try using one of those DRYEL home dry cleaning kits. I used it for some curtains after I moved last year and it worked great. Saved me a lot of money too.
Those DRYEL kits are nice! A friend and I did her wedding gown using that method and it turned out great!
