Here is a back yard swing project that I did recently for a friend. Easy but the requirements were:
1. Must be done for under $50
2. Can not blow over in the wind (She was even talking a hurricane)
3. Can not shake
4. Must look pretty and have as few parts as possible to avoid being clunky.
5. Legs must be secured in the ground, can not be mobile or moved.
Bill of materials were:
(2) - 2 x 4 x 8
(6) - 4 x 4 x 8
(24) bolts, (2) eyebolts, drywall screws, deck screws (big suckers), contact glue, (2) camber wedges ........(1) swing sold separately
The angle for the legs is 27 degrees, the camber wedges to put an outward angle to the leg assembly was 5 degrees. I probably should have made it 9 degrees. All joints contact glued and bolted.
Very pleased with this design. Locals are to sand it down and stain it once it dries out a bit. This is my own design after looking at many commercial kits and other cheap affairs. The old one had a thin tubing frame, blew over, kids moved it, shook like a leaf. Swing was recycled from old swing.
The Grammy loves the new ride. Steady as a rock and them kids all have hernias, it ain't moved one millimeter. Sure beats most store bought crap.
