This may seem like an odd question but my wife is from Ireland and she thinks most of our US bread tastes fake like play doh. I tend to agree after spending many years eating scratch made delicious bread in Ireland. So, what are the best bakeries in Houston that offer scratch made loaves? We've tried loaves from most of the "higher end" grocery stores including Central Market and Whole Foods and we still aren't satisfied

My wife complains about the bread here as well, and we've been similarly underwhelmed by Whole Foods and Central Market (love CM, just not for bread).

French Riviera (3032 Chimney Rock) is really good for baguettes and croissants. Don't know for other types of bread.

My favorite ( and the only one I ever buy) is the German Bauern Brot from HEB. I only wish they would bake the crust crispy
You can buy the bread in the morning, because for whatever reason there is ALWAYS shortage in the afternoon. I complained in the store, filled out consumer complaint form, called the company - but it didn't changed anything. The bread is a great seller...

Yeah, try Panera. I doubt you can find any bread here that's as good as European bread. Not just in Houston, but the States in general...

Specs do a decent loaf- 'Tribeca oven' or something. The problem is it will cost you $5.

Agreed the plastic bread for sale commonly here in the US is vile garbage pumped full of sugar, salt and even hydrogenated fat.

A good rule of thumb is if it has an ingredient list as long as my list of complaints about this country and the people that live in it then it isn't worth eating.

Yeah I agree with you all. The bread here sucks and I've never been outside of the US lol

I just realize that there had to be much better bread than here.

Know what she means I am from England, but the best bread and it is good is Farmhouse from Randalls. Tastes just like bread from home.

There is this whole in the wall place over on Chimney Rock in the Galleria/Uptown area called the French Riviera Bakery, they make a killer Baguette and have a amazing pastry and decent bread selection - you will see a good amount of Euro's and Brit's hanging out at Breakfast and Lunchtime -
