*bump
Trying to start this thread up again....
What are your thoughts on that area...briar village, briar park. I'm looking to see if more flip homes will come on the market.
--just from reading on the forums. Bush elementary is a good school but I'd like to hear from someone who sent their child to bush or have friends in the area.

Why is this area lower cost in housing??? Given it's market area is energy corridor?

Any thoughts appreciated!

That makes sense however, bush has a good reputation right? But I guess not as great as others in the hisd such as river oasis, west you, myerland area. Agree?

Bush Elementary has a very strong reputation that raises local home values; however, I don't think its attendance zone reaches very far east or south. Other HISD elementaries serving those areas are not nearly as well-regarded, though I don't know that they're considered bad, by HISD standards at least. I haven't looked up the stats. Daily may be relatively OK. I've never heard anything positive about the elementaries east of Dairy Ashford, however.

Westbriar Middle is OK / middling, Westside HS is HISD's third-best non-magnet - well below the reputation of Stratford HS in SBISD but not a "bad" reputation.

I lived in Briar Village for most of my middle/high-school years. It's a nice neighborhood, which would surprise most people given the state of decay around West Oaks Mall and that end of Westheimer rd. The HISD schools nearby had their share of problems so my sister and I went private. I enjoyed growing up there, the neighborhood had a nice pool and tennis/basketball courts that were kept up well. I never felt unsafe biking around by myself and we never had any crime problems.

West Oaks Mall is the one at HWY 6 and Westheimer? How does it rate for safety as far as a woman shopping alone?

West Oaks is not really un-safe, but the store options and quality have gone way down over the past 5-10 years. Lots of the chains have left.

Yeah, to be blunt, the Anglos from the Katy area decided they felt "uncomfortable" at West Oaks Mall due to the presence of other ethnicities, and the resulting lack of their spending pretty much killed the place. Pretty typical story for suburban malls when they become "diverse." Anglos need a higher standard for being "uncomfortable" or such stories will keep being repeated.

I think it was Katy Mills Mall opening and Memorial City Mall expanding that dealt the death blow to West Oaks. I still went there to shop at Dillard's and Sears when I lived over there, because it was the closest one to me. The Dillard's closed and I'm not sure about the Sears location.

I didn't feel unsafe there, but the shops I wanted left. ( and we moved into Houston)
