I work downtown and have been tasked with getting a cake to celebrate a 30th employment anniversary. Can anyone suggest a place that is good but won't break the bank (my budget is flexible but I don't want to go overboard)?

Are you looking for a place downtown? Or are you just looking for a really good bakery?

If it's the latter, I suggest Three Brothers Bakery on Braeswood.

I thank you for the suggestion however I have always found the pastries at Three Brothers to be a bit on the dense and heavy side. In the meantime I have found my bakery and have gotten a number of favorable comments from people who have used it - The Acadian Bakers on West Alabama. They will deliver downtown. Thanks anyway.

Not sure what they run, but I have seen some really interesting ones turned out by La Victoria Bakery

Speciality Cakes

Those are fantastic. I couldn't believe some were cakes.

It takes a while to look through the photo galleries for the various types of cakes, some of those are really amazing.

Awesome! Only problem is Specialty is misspelled in the title bar of their web page. :/

Sorry, writer/editor ... can't turn it off. :P

So long as they can spell whatever I need on the cake correctly, we're good!

Moeller's Bakery on Bellaire Blvd. near the train tracks (just inside the west loop) is what I'd recommend. Good prices, good quality. I agree with you about Three Brothers being too dense, among other things.
