The trick is to look for uncommonly good deals that you know won't be around long. You've got to know what the standard sale price range is for the items you need - and then only buy when it's below that standard sale price. That's when you know you've got the deal. And you know, if it takes me getting up a few hours early, and dealing with the a-holes in the parking lot, then hey... I'll do it because it's worth it.

I haven't done the BF thing for over ten years. Most of the sale prices are nothing special. You'll see the same or better prices online or in stores between now and Christmas.

The only things you won't likely see at that price point again or be able to match online are the "door busters". And those are very limited. You aren't likely to get them unless you're in line by 3am or earlier, and maybe not even then. Some of those items are very tempting, like a $145 netbook at Radio Shack or a $188 laptop at Walmart. If I was guaranteed of getting the item if I was there by 7am or so, I might bother to get up early and head out. But no way am I getting up (staying up?) to be in line by 3am or 4am and still might not get the item.

This is a joke, right?

Surely you don't do something awesome every minute of the day.

In some ways, but you aren't going to see a netbook for under $150.

I got a new laptop adapter at Best Buy; however, I didn't wake up at no damn 3am just to get it.

It was annoying because the price was $39, but when I got to check-out; they rang it up for $81 so I had to deal with getting a price check and arguing with them about the price.

In past years, I always found electronics (cameras, TVs, laptops) at Best Buy and Circuit City were cheapest on Black Friday (not just talking about door crashers). Even when I waited until after Xmas and even until Feb when they were listed as "clearance", the price was still a tad higher. In fact, if you were to buy last years's outdated model TV on Amazon today, it would probably be more expensive than it was last year. Anyway, thank god for online shopping, often you can lock in those great deals online and pick it up a few days later when there are no crowds.

Depends on what they are. So far, I'm not that impressed with Amazon's offerings.
