These tests are used to determine advancing within the group, you want the smartest people leading regardless of skin color. Failing a test doesn't mean the guy can't rescue people out of a fire but the smarter guy is driving and the one who can read a map and get to the fire quicker.

You're trying your best to make this about respect when it's not. How should they based merit increases for firemen since apparently you don't agree with using testing for intelligence?

People can still respect them while criticizing them.

There is no way you have any clue whether your doc graduated at the top of his class or at the bottom. You only know that he passed and is licensed. You might know what med school he went to *if* he posts that in his office, but you might not even know that much.

You totally missed my point, and you still didn't answer the question. If you did know, if you some how seen he's or her's transcript, would you let them operate on you? Hell No!

In this particular case, no, not really.

If a group of men--not one man, but a GROUP of men--feel they're being discriminated against, I'm inclined to believe them Sue me

Not being able to pass a standardized test isn't discrimination unless you're talking about discrimination against less intelligent people, that's not what they're claiming. This group of black firefighters are claiming some sort of racial discrimination because they couldn't pass these tests which to me is a huge joke. I find it hard to believe that there's a way to create a test that is "racially discriminatory" unless it's blatantly racist but then it would have been made public instantly.

These men are using the crutch of racism because they want promotions or raises that they don't deserve because they haven't met the criteria.

Yeah because all those people in Cleveland rallying against the rape victim all have valid reasons.
