I will be working in greenway plaza, I am looking for home in the 225K range I have 2 young daughters soon to start elem. school. I am thinking Katy or Atascasita but not sure on commute times. We like trees and greenery. We want good school districts low crime, easy commute, etc.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Westbury is the best bang for your buck it is only about 6 miles away on the south west side close to the loop there are a decent number of homes for sale in the area right now stay away from westbury south which is south of west airport it is kinda ghetto & homes are junky

We have friends who work in Greenway and my hubby goes there from time to time with his work. We live in Eagle Springs and the commute is pretty good they all say. Even closer if you choose someplace like Fall Creek. You may even want to take a look into Summerwood. You mentioned trees so Kingwood though a bit further away than the other communities is a great alternative to The Woodlands. You will get trees trees and more trees there.
Obviously we chose Eagle Springs. Great community with tons of trees as well and not one but two elementary schools which are fabulous. Our child attended both so we can vouch for them both.

Not sure why Katy would be an option. That is pretty far away as commute time goes. I would think that would nixed right off the bat like The Woodlands.

Let me know if you need a Realtor recommendation. Ours knows the area very well and we have used her twice now. She has two offices, one here in Atascocita and one in Kingwood.

It was my understanding that the commute to Greenway from Katy wasn't too bad. Eagle Spring looks amazing but might be too expensive because we were wanting a pool too. But thanks for your input.. any idea how long the commute is from Eagle Springs to greenway?

The commute from Humble to Greenway plaza will be over an hour in traffic.

The closest suburb to Greenway (which I thinka previous poster confused with Greenspoint) is Sugarland. Alternatively, west houston (77077) and/or south Katy (Cinco Ranch) can be a tolerable commute on the Westpark tollway.

One commenter mentioned Westbury, which seems to be an up and coming area, but I'm not sure of what the good elementary schools are right now. The high school doesn't have a very good rep right now though and the houses are older so will require more maintenance (the nature of older houses).

I've said it here before but I second the Westbury suggestion. You just need to get a house zoned to Parker or Kolter Elementary. Use the school zone search tool to find out for any address:
School Zone Search Tool

You'll be good through middle school (Johnston middle is exemplary rated). High school is an issue; Westbury high is not very good. But your commute to Greenway would be about 15 minutes in traffic, I would guess.

I don't know why on earth anyone would select a commute of up to an hour when there is a lovely neighborhood right nearby, with Galleria shopping and restaurants 10 minutes away. But maybe folks just really like Chili's.

Search 77035 and 77096, or by subdivision: Westbury, Parkwest, Maplewood South.
