If they did that, most everybody would use the credit. Less $$ for the government.
If they have a dedicated tax-free weekend, you'll find many parents like myself avoiding malls like a virus. More $$ for the government.
You couldn't offer me free school clothes to get me near a mall this weekend.

Ditto that. I did tax-free weekend a couple of years ago and I will NEVER do that again. It's almost as bad as the Filene's basement sale on wedding gowns.

that's my point,
if people got a tax credit for each kid in school, people can go and buy school supplies at anytime.
That's the exact same thing that we do with businesses. We give them tax credits.

Can somebody explain me why these items are on that list:
Sales Tax Holiday (98-490)
Diapers, ties, pajamas, swimsuits.
And bicycle helmets are not exempt

There are lots of sales the weekend before schools start back, so it's extra savings to me. I always shop the tax-free weekend.....crowds and all. We don't have a list of schools supplies (high school,) so I just stock up for the year on pencils, pens, folders, paper, etc. Of course, Texas is not the only state to do this.....aren't there about 16 or so?

We do have lists of school supplies by grade here. We no longer shop for them though. Our PTA offers packages at the end of the year for the next year. It's much more convenient than trying to find each supply as some things tend to be rare. We just order online from our PTA and the child gets the supplies at his or her desk the first day of school.
