I plan to visit Houston next Spring. So far, I have selected a motel on South Main at 610. Primary reasons are price and it's on 2 bus lines. Is the area dicey or totally ghetto? TIA.

It gets nicer the further north you go on S Main as you get closer to the Med Center. The METRO rail is few streets east on Fannin. You can take that through Herman Park, the Med Center, and downtown.

that area and the hotels there are not good. i drive right through there to work. there is one hotel just outside the loop where most of the people there live out of the hotel. will you get murdered? no but is it dicey yes

the hotels just inside the loop although less than a half mile away are nicer and cleaner. not 5 star by any means but nicer than the ones immediately on s. main and loop

area isn't that bad. there are 200k townhome complexes within walking distance and lots of traffic. anyone in this country is very unlikely to be a victim of random violent crime

would i stay there? no kinda ugly area. but would i be afraid for my life? no

psh people not from the city!

Like what? Watching a blue Buick drive by with 84s?

You'll be fine.

Still a crappy area regardless of townhomes that may be nearby. Houston is too big - you can find a better area to stay in.

During my recent trip to Houston, I stayed at the Extended Stay America at 2330 Southwest Freeway. It is in or near a neighborhood called Upper Kirby which seemed decent to me. At $55 per night, I found it to be a bargain. The room comes with a kitchenette and there is a security guard in the parking lot at night. However, I don't know about the bus lines in the area and the train line is not close by. I had a rental car.

Thanks for the responses. I found another place, on the 290, about a mile from the Tidwell/Hollister exit. It doesn't seem to be a busline though.
