Okay, so I'm supposed to fly out to Austin/Houston tomorrow and I'm having serious second thoughts. I'm pretty sure I will cancel this trip because I just don't have a good idea of what it looks like there right now. Is the city photogenic at all this time of year and more specifically in the next few days? Or should I just play it safe and wait till spring or summer, but then risk it being brown due to heat or smoggy?

With the city being so far south, I just figured it would stay pretty green even in January. I plan to update my photos of downtown Houston, but don't want to waste my time and money if the photos won't turn out good because it's overcast and everything is brown and ugly.

Thanks if you can help

Stay home. Millions of canopy trees died during the drought and it's brown. However, you can photoshop the hell out of it and make it green if you like.

If you plan to photograph buildings and the skylines, then it's going to be a great time. A cold front just came through and the air will be extremely clean and clear for the next couple of days. Winter time is the best time to snap pictures of downtown and other buildings because the air gets cleaned up.

Most trees have lost all of their leaves right now, but Houston has a variety of trees that don't lose its leaves likes the Green Oaks and Pines.

What type of photography do you plan to do?

This is my website: SkylineScenes.com Just skyline stuff . But I do like to have green grass etc to work with.

I have pretty much decided to reschedule, I don't want to risk it. The best time for night shots is winter, but I would like to get up in the air, get nice day shots etc as well.

It all depends on what type of photography you will be taking.

It's not my favorite time of the year for photos, for various reasons. Nice weather, though.

AWESOME! So do you do that as a hobby or as a professional career? Must be nice to travel for the sole purpose of photographing cities!

March-April would probably be the best time, especially if we're going to start getting rain on a regular basis again.
