There are activities for kids every day at Seaside. They have movies and plays and art activities and concerts. Bicycles to rent. The "village" is really family oriented. If you search, you can see a list of the activities offered.

My kids are grown too, but we went to Seaside when they were younger.

We do Seaside for two weeks every summer with a couple of other families. The kids love it and have yet to be bored; spending time on the beach, at the pools riding bikes, playing and doing kid stuff. There are not arcades or manufactured entertainment centers; it's more like being dropped back in time with the most sophisticated form of entertainment being a board game. The beaches are fabulous - white, powdery sand and clear, turquoise water. Highly recommend.

The two Marriotts in Destin are pretty nice. They are right by the Sandestin resort and include the resort amenities. The Residence Inn includes the breakfast, the Courtyard does not. There are many restaurants and bars in the Baytowne Wharf harbor area of the Sandestin Resort, so that is one thing to consider. It was like an open air party with all the restaurants the nights we went down there for the fireworks and fun. The Springhill Suites in Pensacola looks nice for a place right on the beach.

Wherever you go I don't think you can go wrong from Pensacola down to Panama City. All this talk has me wanting to plan a vacation right now!

When you go on a vacation from Texas cities to Florida, do you drive there or fly?
From Austin or Dallas going to Panhandle or Gulf shores Alabama, its about 10+ hours according to Google maps, to Sarasota it's 16 hours, to Miami it would be even more. Is it worth a 2 day driving each way for a vacation? Especially for a short few days vacation...
South Padre from Austin would be only one day (6h) drive, even suitable for a weekend trip.

Default Go to Florida

Pensacola is closer than Destin and will provide just as nice of beaches. Anyway you cant beat the Emerald Coast. They are some of the nicest beaches in the country.

Flights are limited and often expensive to the Florida Panhandle, so we drove. Now I would generally fly to Tampa, Miami or Orlando from Texas.

I wouldn't drive to Miami, that's just too far to drive IMO. Sarasota is even too far for me. We usually drive to Pensacola but have driven as far as St. George Island. You get there same day with time to get dinner/groceries if you leave early enough, so it's really not too bad. Worst part is almost always traffic around Baton Rouge.

Best part of the drive is stopping for Po Boys or spicy chicken at Chicken on the Bayou in Breaux Bridge.
