Try Las Alamedas at La Centerra in Katy...
Also, if you are just looking for tacos, 100% taquito across from Lakewood church has some pretty authentic Pastor Tacos, with pineapple and all

Go to any nasty, dirty, little taco truck and you will find it. Look for one with dudes working. They usually look at making street food as an art. Even the one in Montrose is good. There is one on Airline that is famous and even has been written.

If it has yellow cheese on it, it ain't Mexican.

I think it's funny... I have a sister (step) that grew up with her Mexican side of the family that were straight out of central Mexico and found she can do some pretty amazing things with traditional Mexican food - especially what she can do with a tomatillo.

She's in the Navy now but every time she comes here she begs us to take here to Mamacita's. I know this restaurant only has maybe one or two actual Mexican dishes on the menu but find it kind of funny she would even think twice of having Tex-Mex style food.

The kind of food we have around here which at a lot of places serves some Mex some Tex-Mex is like it's own region of Mexico. I've read articles or interviews from chefs who hold the value of authentic Mex highest but recognize the variation we serve here in Texas (and California's style) to be just another variation or progression of traditional Mex and in itself is its own regional Mexican dish.

That being said, I agree with David Dollar about a random truck that serves tacos. I've been dying to try the one where 610 meets 45 south off to the right of the freeway by the gas station. Every time I go by there I see smoke billowing out of the smoke stack.

Pico's is gross. Not real mexican food or the dishes are poorly executed knock offs. But, if you want to look like you live in Bellaire that is the place to go

I will have to try some of these suggestions. Has anyone found great Mole around Houston? I first encountered that yummy dish in Monterrey, Mexico, at Los Generales, and now I am always on the lookout for Mole.
