I have heard that there are well over a thousand gators in Lake Livingston and a decent amount of them in Lake Conroe.

Can anyone on here confirm this? I am not afraid, just want to know so that I can be on the look-out for those toothy critters.

Alligators have the potential to live in any body of water around the Houston area. Typically - wildlife is afraid of you, so you just have to be on the lookout and give it a wide berth.

Lake Livingston Lake Conditions Lake Conroe isn't any different.

Yes, there are gators in Lake Livingston. My family used to go there for picnics and camps in the cabins and we'd hear the gators from the lake. We walked up to the lake and there are signs to watch out for alligators.

I have only seen one gator in lake conroe and I have been fishing on that lake since I was 4. So 21 years.

They are definitely there but it never stoped me from swiming or anything else.

I am acquainted with a duck hunter who lost a dog to an alligator on Lake Livingston a few years ago. There are definitely gators in Livingston and Conroe.

That said, there are also gators at Greatwood, Memorial, River Oaks, in Buffalo, Brays and White Oak, etc. etc. I saw one sunning itself on the banks of the Willow Waterhole not long ago. You're not likely to have a problem with gators, but you're smart to be mindful at just about ANY body of water of any size in SE Texas.

I saw one sunning itself on the Sienna Plantation golf course. My ball rolled up near him...I elected to take a drop without penalty.

River Oaks Country Club use to have a gator in their pond on the golf course. The maintenance guys use to always feed it so it got removed since it associated food with people. They're every where in Houston. Buffalo Bayou has signs at different places saying do not feed the alligators.
