Houston is the largest city in the country to not have an subway system. Would Houston residents support it? Will it ever be built?

With rising sea levels I don't see this as a good investment for Houston. Now an above ground subway would be cool! Or a commuter rail system

I agree with the above-ground rail.

On the sinking of Houston - it mentions Jersey Village, which sits on top of an old oil field. Places like Bridgeland are carting in dirt to raise the level, to offset any future flooding. Certain areas in town are prone to flooding - others not.

Look at the trouble it's taking to get a decent light rail network. No way are we getting a subway or anything comparable. What we will get is wider and wider freeways.

A rail system completely or even mostly below grade probably would not have been the best thing for Houston, but had the right decisions been made, we could've had a decent heavy rail system in place (I'm assuming this is what the OP was really talking about).

Chicago does not have an actual "subway system", but parts of the lines are underground. I believe most of it is elevated or at-grade. This is the route I wish Houston would've taken.

No. The city of Houston and Harris County will never build a subway system or a legitimate rail system.
