Then we shopped and got better coverage with about half the cost with Liberty Mutual.

I can give you our agent info if you pm me. They also cut our auto premium in half!
Thanks for your post. That Liberty Mutual agent will save us $2000 on the home and auto insurance. I don't know what's up with Nationwide.

I am buying a house and both USAA (my current provider) and State Farm will straight up not insure the house. This is in 77025...and the house is in the 500 year flood plain.

Other premiums are $5-6k on a $370k house. wth?

Any reason given for all that? Something's not right.

I have USAA for my house. My premium is 1802.80. I get about a 920 dollar discount. The dwelling is insured for about 250K. You insure the dwelling, not the price of the house+lot. My lot costs more than my house. Personal belongings 125K. I also insure my car through USAA.

I'm going to have to try to get hold of Liberty Mutual again, maybe try a different office this time. I'm paying way too much on a $100k house.

My house is in the 500 year flood plain. It has never been an issue. 100 year, yes, your federal flood insurance will be a bunch. Every house in Houston should have flood insurance.

Just bought Liberty Mutual on a $515 house. The premium was 2400. Exact same coverage and premium,
$3200, we have had with Nationwide. We have been a customer of my neighbor, the agency owner for 12 years. Last year I checked with another friend who does State farm. The premium was about the same as Nationwide. I also checked with Amica. Same deal.

Flood is separate and around 400.

Other state governments keep a tight lid on homeowner's insurance. Even Florida, which gets hit with way more hurricanes than Texas, has much lower rates.
